SugarSugar is a musical comedy based on the famous Marilyn Monroe screenplay, 'Some Like It Hot'. Penned for the stage in 1977 by composer Jule Styne ('Gypsy', 'Funny Girl'.) and lyricist Bob Merrill ('Funny Girl'.) 'Sugar' offers a wonderful story and score. SynopsisSet in the 1920's, 'SUGAR' tells the hilarious story of two out of work musicians, Joe and Jerry, who become the quarry of Spats Palazzo and his gang after witnessing the St. Valentine's day massacre in a Chicago garage. They are forced to don disguises and join an all girl band - Sweet Sue and Her Society Syncopaters - as Daphne and Josephine, enroute to entertain at a Miami hotel. On board the train they befriend Sugar Kane, a down at heel, tippling, blonde ukelele player who has joined the band on the off chance of meeting a Miami millionaire. On arrival at their destination, the situation is further complicated by Joe/Josephine finding himself attracted to Sugar and Jerry/Daphne trying to thwart the amorous attentions of the very wealthy, much married, Sir Osgood Fielding. Assuming a further disguise as multi-millionaire Junior Shell Oil, Joe lures the eager Sugar out to Sir Osgood's yacht for supper while Jerry/Daphne unwillingly allows the smitten Sir Osgood to take him/her dining and dancing The arrival in Miami of Spats and his gang sets the scene for a hilarious finale where everyone gets his/her...her/his...man/woman. The show's score contains many swinging-jazz-big-band type numbers and some moving ballads and lighter pieces. The score also accommodates a large selection of chorus numbers and much of the music lends itself well to tap dance, soft-shoe movement. PerformancesThe season spanned 2 weeks with 5 performances:
