2008 – Godspell | ARC Theatre

ARC’s 2008 musical production was Godspell. A show unlike any ARC has produced in the past,Godspell marked ARC’s 13th musical production. An unlucky number for some but luckily not for ARC as Godspell earned rave reviews from both audiences and critics alike.

Synopsis

Based on the Gospel According to St. Matthew, and featuring a sparkling score by Stephen Schwartz, Godspell draws from various theatrical traditions such as clowning, pantomime, charades, acrobatics and vaudeville. Godspell is a groundbreaking and unique reflection on the life of Jesus, with a message of kindness, tolerance and love. Godspell boasts a string of well-loved songs, led by the international hit, “Day By Day.” As the cast performs “Prepare Ye”, “Learn Your Lessons Well”, “All for the Best”, “All Good Gifts”, “Turn Back, O Man” and “By My Side,” the parables of Jesus Christ come humanly and hearteningly to life.

Performance season

The performance season ran over two weeks and comprised of 7 shows – the most ARC had ever produced to date:

Friday 4th July at 8pm (Gala Opening)
Saturday 5th July at 2pm (matinee) and 8pm
Wednesday 9th July at 8pm
Thursday 10th July at 8pm
Friday 11th July at 8pm
Saturday 12th July at 8pm

ARC’s musical production Godspell was held at the Banyule Theatre, Buckingham Drive, Heidelberg.
